Cub Scouts

Boys and Girls, Grades K-5

There are three conveniently located neighborhood Cub Packs in Ridley: Pack 264 (at St. Madeline’s in Ridley Park), Pack 339 (at their scout cabin in Leedom Estates) and Pack 485 (at Edgewood Elementary School). All three offer opportunities for boys and girls in grades K-5 to explore the outdoors, gain an appreciation for nature and outdoor adventure, serve our communities, and develop life-long friendships. Our Cub Scout program runs from September through May each year with ‘bonus’ events in the summer months.

Bi-weekly Den Meetings

Cub Scouts meet every other week in grade-specific dens to work on age appropriate adventure requirements. The Cub Scout curriculum includes hands-on activities, games, and projects that help even our youngest members to stay active and engaged while learning the tenets of the Scout Oath and Law. Multiple Cub Packs means we likely have one that works to fit your family’s busy schedule.

Group adventures

At least once each month, our packs embark on a Pack Adventure. These adventures are designed to introduce our younger scouts to the outdoors and to give our older Cubs a chance to practice leadership skills by helping to lead the younger dens in activities. Group events are also when we take the time to recognize individual scouts for their achievements and to celebrate our successes throughout the year.

Something for every child

Some of our Cubs found that scouting was one of the only activities available to them during COVID. Now that sports and other activities are once again in full swing, many find our that our program fits their schedules and season just fine. Each level of Cub Scouts offers opportunities to explore different scouting adventures covering a variety of interests from outdoor adventure, arts, STEM, teamwork, first aid, nature, fitness, history, and more. There is something for every individual scout’s interests. Advancement Awards help them to celebrate their achievements along the way to earning their yearly Cub Scout rank.

Family focused

The Cub Scout program is family friendly. It involves both boys and girls, and encourages parents to get involved and participate in their scout’s growth and development. Den meetings are structured to include parent participation and parents and siblings are welcome on all outings. Many parents of our Cub Scouts have found that it is not only the scouts who form lifelong friendships through our scouting program, but they meet other new parents in their community as well.

Engage their
growing curiosity

Our neighborhood locations throughout Ridley provide an opportunity to gently introduce our Cubs to outdoor adventure in an environment that they feel safe and comfortable in. Many of our scouts have embarked on their first overnight camping trip right here in Ridley. The close proximity of home and the familiar surroundings ease our younger scouts into the joy of tent camping without the anxiety that may come from a full destination camping trip. Our spring and fall campouts often include a trip to Ridley Lake for fishing.

Our regular Pack outings are largely driven by the interests of the Pack. We have had several Ranch Time adventures that allow the kids to learn what it is like to work on a horse ranch before receiving horseback riding lessons from qualified professionals. We have also visited many of the permanent orienteering courses in the area, with scouts as young as six learning to find their way with a map and compass. Our older Cubs have even organized their own snow tubing and snowboarding trips, complete with a full day of snowboarding lessons from their very own Den Leaders.

Our Cub Scouting program fosters an environment of support and encouragement that allows your scout to learn and explore alongside friends and family. We look forward to welcoming you into the Pack.
